Bread

At my church, we sign up to help out with various parts of the Sunday worship palette. Usually when I help, I take communion, which requires bringing the bread and prepping everything. I noticed that some other people who help out sometimes bring homemade bread creations. While I'd never made bread before, nor do I have a bread maker, I decided I, too, would make from scratch, what would come to represent Christ's body.

I browsed some recipes on the internet, found one I liked, rolled up my sleeves, and here's what came out:

It's mostly whole wheat, with some organic unbleached white flour. No eggs, just butter & olive oil for the fat. A few grinds of sea salt for flavour.

It turned out really well for my first time, and tasted good, too. It was a lot of time and tiring manual labour, but the results proved fruitful.

I tried making yeast-free bread for communion this past week, but am not as big on the flavour or texture. It's not bad, and I wonder if I didn't cook it long enough, since the inside was doughy. It was made with all whole-wheat flour, rolled oats, soy milk, water, olive oil, maple syrup and sea salt. I found the recipe on allrecipes.com, but I forget what it was called.

Enough about bread. I've got some guacamole to make for Girls' Night!
